Keep the WORD in your Heart…

“Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:7 NASB

This commandment was given to Joshua many times. Three times by Moses as recorded in Deut. 31: 6,7, and 23 and again, here God speaks directly to Joshua.

We know from history that God’s people are very good at one thing, forgetting. No matter how many times God acted to deliver them, the people of Israel continually forgot God’s faithfulness in protecting them and taking care of them. And, in their forgetting, they would murmur, become angry, and some even resorted to worshipping other gods. This was well documented in Israel and even seen among Christians today.

Those of us who minister to others are called upon to set the example.  This passage not only calls Joshua to the courage needed for physical war, but it also calls Joshua to courageous faith in the Word of God. The people you disciple will not always receive your example, but; “only be strong, meditate on God’s Word day and night, do not turn from it to the left or the right.”

Prayer: Father, give me the courage to read and study your Word faithfully so that I may successfully minister to the saints. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
